Perthshire North MSP, Mr John Swinney, has today welcomed news that the Child Disability Payment has opened for applications for those living in Perth and Kinross.

The payment, which provides support for the extra costs that a child with a disability might have, is the first application-based disability benefit to be introduced by the Scottish Government and will be administered by Social Security Scotland. The benefit replaces the UK Government’s Disability Living Allowance for children. 

Whilst the payment will launch nationwide later this autumn, it is currently being piloted in Perth and Kinross, Dundee City and the Western Isles.

Commenting, Mr Swinney said:

“I am delighted that families across Perthshire are now able to benefit from the Child Disability Payment.
“We know that caring for a child with disabilities brings with it extra costs and challenges. This payment, designed in consultation with families, will provide crucial support to parents, carers and children.

“The Scottish Government is determined to build a welfare system that treats people with respect, compassion and fairness. The launch of this payment marks an important step on our journey towards achieving this goal.”
