Perthshire North MSP, Mr John Swinney, and Carse of Gowrie Councillor Beth Pover have today (Friday), met with local residents in the Errol Station area to hear of their concerns about speeding traffic in the vicinity and driver carelessness in connection with the level crossing in the area.

Local residents have seen an increase in traffic volumes in the area over the years with many heavy goods vehicles using the road to access the broad range of businesses in the locality. With this increase in traffic has come many examples of speeding cars and lorries that do not respect the 30mph speed limit and a lack of careful driving in relation to the level crossing on the road.

Mr Swinney and Cllr Pover intend to raise the concerns of local people with Perth and Kinross Council and to urge the council to take action to address the situation. They will also raise the concerns about speeding with Police Scotland.

Mr Swinney said :

“I completely understand the concerns of local residents. 

“This is a very busy road that is used by a range of car and HGV drivers. It is also a route used by many cyclists and pedestrians. It is important that road safety is paramount and that all appropriate measures are taken to address the concerns of my constituents. 

“The fact that speeding is taking place at all is a danger, but when it is combined with a lack of care in connection with the level crossing it is deeply troubling.”

Cllr Pover said :

“I am pleased that local residents have raised their concerns with me and I will take these up, with John Swinney MSP, with Perth and Kinross Council and Police Scotland. 

“It is vital that our roads in the Carse, which carry such a significant volume of personal and business traffic, are safe for all users. 

“I will take these points up with the council and pledge to work with the local community to address their concerns.”
