Swinney comments on flooding
John Swinney, MSP for Perthshire North, has spoken about the flooding that has affected large parts of Perthshire over the weekend.
An amber weather warning was put in place across Perthshire, with a severe flood warning issued by SEPA for parts of Perth. There has also been a significant amount of flooding across Perthshire, leading to a number of road closures.
Commenting, Mr Swinney said: “This has been a ferocious weekend of weather that has caused enormous difficulty across Perth and wider Perthshire.
“I would like to put on record my thanks to all the volunteers and public servants who have worked tirelessly to protect us and ensure the welfare of vulnerable individuals.
“Whilst conditions seem to have improved, it is important that we remain vigilant as there is still a significant amount of water in the river system.
“Today, I will be out and about across my constituency to see first-hand the damage caused by this weekend’s flooding. I appreciate that this will have been an acutely difficult weekend for a number of people who have sadly been affected by flooding in their homes. Should any constituent have an issue that they feel I can assist with, I would ask them to contact my office directly.
“This weekend’s weather is another reminder of the impact of climate change. It is therefore more important than ever that we take action to address the climate emergency, and that we recognise the serious consequences we will face if we fail to do so.”
