Swinney congratulates award nominees
Perthshire North MSP, Mr John Swinney, has welcomed news that two local buildings have been nominated for this year’s Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland (RIAS) Awards.
The two buildings – Guardswell Farm and Perth Theatre – are part of a 25-strong shortlist from an initial 75 entries with the winner to be announced later in the year.
Commenting, Mr Swinney said:
“I am delighted that both Guardswell Farm and Perth Theatre have been recognised for the outstanding quality of their design.
“These nominations are evidence that Perthshire North a forward-looking area, home to exciting, innovative works of architecture.
“I am sure that the RIAS’ decision to recognise the quality of these buildings will only add to their appeal to the wider public. I welcome the potential increase in business that will result from this news and wish them the best of luck in the competition.”
The nominations come less than six months after the re-opening of Perth Theatre, following a £16.6m refurbishment that took place over a four-year period. Since it’s re-opening, the venue has played host to performances such as Shakespeare’s “Richard III” and David Harrower’s “Knives in Hens”.
