Press Release

Swinney intervention leads to A90 flyover re-opening

Publised date : 17 Dec 2019

Perthshire North MSP, Mr John Swinney, has today welcomed news that the A90 flyover has re-opened to two-way traffic.

The crossing, which will be temporarily managed by four-way traffic signals, was first closed after being hit by a truck carrying an excavator at the end of October. The prolonged wait for the flyover to re-open has been a source of frustration and inconvenience for both local business owners and commuters.

On 7th December, Mr Swinney met with businesses and constituents to discuss their concerns. Following this meeting, Mr Swinney liaised with Transport Scotland to raise the concerns of his constituents and emphasise the need for a speedy resolution. He has been consistently kept up to date on the progress of the repairs, and advocated for the installation of traffic lights to allow traffic to travel in both directions.

Commenting, Mr Swinney said:

“I am pleased that, following a constructive dialogue with Transport Scotland, the A90 flyover has now been re-opened to traffic in both directions.

“It was clear from speaking to local residents and businesses that this situation was not sustainable and that action was needed to ensure the crossing was re-opened as quickly as possible, subject to the necessary safety checks being completed.

“I emphasised the concerns of locals to Transport Scotland and have ensured that I was regularly updated on the progress of the crossing’s repairs. I am glad that my intervention on behalf of my constituents has helped to ensure that all possible steps were taken to expedite the re-opening of the flyover.”
