Swinney supports at-risk bus services in Carse of Gowrie

Perthshire North MSP, Mr John Swinney, has given his support to a campaign to retain bus services in the Carse of Gowrie after a public consultation by Stagecoach buses drew criticism from local businesses and residents following plans to withdraw the number 77 services.

Following meetings with, and correspondence from, concerned residents, as well as local employers such as the James Hutton Institute, Mr Swinney is now seeking a meeting with Perth and Kinross Council, and Stagecoach, to discuss the proposals to try to save the existing services.

Commenting, Mr Swinney said:

“I am concerned by the proposed changes to the existing bus routes, and possible axing of existing services.

“Speaking to people in Invergowrie and Kingoodie, I understand that these bus services are vital for many people in the area, with the number 77 particularly essential for those who rely on public transport and for those working at the James Hutton Institute, for example.

“I understand the potential impact a reduction in service – let alone a loss of service – could have on people living in the area and on local employers. I hope to be able to discuss these concerns with Perth and Kinross Council, and Stagecoach, in the near future.”
