Press Release

John Swinney supports Small Business Saturday

Publised date : 29 Nov 2016

Perthshire North MSP, John Swinney, is encouraging local people to shop locally this weekend, and support Small Business Saturday.

The annual event, now in its fourth year, takes place on Saturday 3 December. Over a dozen small, independent businesses have signed up to take part in the grassroots, non-commercial campaign across Perthshire North.

With dozens of unique shops in Perth, and the surrounding area, Mr Swinney is asking local shoppers to take part in this year’s event and consider shopping locally more often. To mark the day, Mr Swinney will be visiting Murrays Bakers, in Perth, as one of the participating stores.

Commenting ahead of his visit, Mr Swinney said:

“I am delighted to lend my support to Small Business Saturday. Every year, the day has become more and more successful with customer spending up 24% on the same day last year, compared to 2014. I am particularly pleased to see so many small businesses in Perth, and throughout my constituency, taking part.

“With so many small, independent traders in Perth, it is important that local people support them, and their work. We saw with the recent Christmas Lights switch on in the City centre, that thousands of people enjoy what Perth has to offer. It is excellent timing that Small Business Saturday will follow on so quickly from those events and I hope Perthshire businesses will feel the benefit from this year’s Small Business Saturday, and help to encourage more people to shop locally in 2017.”
