SWINNEY TO VISIT WEEPING WINDOWS IN PERTH

Publised date : 01 Jul 2016

Perthshire North MSP, Mr John Swinney, will be in Perth tomorrow [Friday], to visit the Poppies Weeping Windows installation at Balhousie Castle.

Speaking in advance of the visit, Mr Swinney said:

“It is hugely poignant that my visit coincides with the 100th anniversary of the first day of the Battle of the Somme.

“This battle took the lives of countless brave soldiers from Perthshire and beyond.  It was by far the bloodiest battle of the First World War.

“It is, therefore, fitting that this breath-taking installation has been opened at this time and at the traditional home of the Black Watch.  Balhousie Castle is also a place where we can learn more about the Great War and pay tribute to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.

“I hope that many visitors will come to the Black Watch Museum to see the Weeping Windows and will remember our war heroes.”
