Swinney welcomes tennis club funding
Perthshire North MSP, Mr John Swinney, has today welcomed news that Dunkeld and Birnam Tennis Club is to receive funding of £22,500.
The funding, provided by sportscotland’s Sport Facilities Fund (SFF), will allow the club to install floodlighting to their existing tennis courts. The installation of floodlighting is a priority for local tennis clubs, enabling the community and members to play tennis all year round, greatly increasing potential for participation at the facility. The floodlighting is part of a larger project to resurface the courts and introduce a practice wall for juniors.
Commenting, Mr Swinney said:
“I am delighted to hear that Dunkeld and Birnam Tennis Club have been successful in applying for sportscotland funding.
“The installation of floodlights will allow the club to play tennis matches all year round, thereby increasing opportunities for members and the local community to make use of the facilities. I am also pleased to hear that the club will be introducing a practice wall for juniors, thereby ensuring that promising young players can continue to hone their skills.
“Accessible and high-quality sports facilities are of tremendous value to local communities, particularly those in rural areas. Accordingly, this investment will have a potentially transformative effect on the area, and will be welcomed by all.”
Dunkeld and Birnam Tennis Club will also be receiving funding from The Gannochy Trust and SSE Griffin & Calliacher Community Fund.
